After four days of competing, the International Harp Competition in Szeged<\/a> is drawing to a close for the fifth time. The most senior category, U25, has completed its final stage. This required Debussy’s Sonate en Trio, followed by a virtuoso encore – the sort of programme that is a joy to listen to!\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bravo to all three U25 finalists, for their virtuosity and musicianship, and the varied and beautiful repertoire they have treated us to throughout the competition. Here are the results.\u00a0<\/p>\n

First Prize: Tatiana REPNIKOVA (Russia)<\/p>\n

Third Prize: Nicolette CHIN (Singapore)<\/p>\n

Special Prize, from the City of Szeged: Tatiana REPNIKOVA<\/p>\n

Fortunate Hungarians have the chance to hear Tatiana Repnikova again thanks to the special prize offered to the winner by Andrea Vigh, Rector of the Lizst Academy of Music in Budapest<\/a>. This prize is a recital as part of the long-established harp festival in G\u00f6d\u00f6ll\u00f6, in the Autumn of 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thank you also to M\u00e1te B\u00e1n (flute) and P\u00e9ter B\u00e1rsony (viola), for their fine chamber music-making with the finalists. And that’s not all: every competition has a big round of thank-yous to make, because they are always a collaborative effort. Even if you conceive of a competition entirely on your own, it is impossible to make it work without a team. Of course, no competition could take place without the jury, who give all contestants the benefit of their time and expertise over several long days. Then there is the venue and co-sponsors, who facilitate competition conditions, and create special prizes. Many competitions have a board of trustees, who take responsibility for the success of the event, and its continuation.\u00a0 Last, and very far from least, there are the volunteers. They welcome candidates, handle practicing schedules, move harps, call contestants to the stage…when this goes smoothly, it makes a big difference to the wellbeing of the contestants.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\t\t
