\"Uan\u00e1The wonderful Jazz Harp Foundation<\/a> and the equally wonderful Cristina Braga<\/a>\u00a0ran a Brazilian Jazz Harp Immersion<\/a> in July 2016. The\u00a0all-inclusive, ten-day jazz\u00a0retreat took place at Cristina’s\u00a0Uan\u00e1 Et\u00ea Music Garden<\/a>,\u00a0in the Atlantic forest near Rio de Janeiro. We sponsored\u00a04×500$ scholarships for South American students, and the Jazz Harp Foundation offered\u00a0a further award.<\/p>\n

As well as host Cristina Braga, the preliminary faculty line-up included Carol Robbins, Felice Pomeranz, Latin jazz expert and bass player Ricardo Medeiros, and the Jazz Harp Foundation\u2019s education crew – saxophone player & jazz education expert Kurt Schwab, plus\u00a0harpists and JHF founders\u00a0Brenda Dor-Groot and Sabine Meijers. From private lessons to harp big band, from theory to play-along, from dancing to singing, the course was also a perfect chance to explore\u00a0Bossa Nova and Samba in detail, and in the very place where its root rhythms originated over 200 years ago.<\/p>\n
