What better way to mark our fiftieth anniversary than with our favourite type of event: a festival! We warmly invite you to join us in Paris, for an exceptional programme celebrating everything we love most about the harp.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On Friday, October 21, we will begin with a gala concert in the Amphith\u00e9\u00e2tre of the Cit\u00e9 de la Musique, joined by friends from throughout the world. Here is the star-studded line-up: Mai Fukui<\/a> (Japan), M\u00e9lanie Laurent<\/a> (France), Kevin Le Pennec<\/a> (Brittany), \u015eirin Pancaro\u011flu (Turkey), Ghislaine Petit-Volta<\/a> (France), Parker Ramsay<\/a> (USA) and Michelle Sweegers<\/a> (the Netherlands)!<\/p>\n

Our flagship showroom is a stone\u2019s throw from the Cit\u00e9 de la Musique. After the opening gala, we\u2019ll transform l\u2019Espace Camac into a jazz club – twice. Friday night is gipsy swing night, as we welcome the wonderful Christine Lutz Quartet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, October 22, we\u2019ll begin the day with a lecture to mark the publication of \u201cErard: Empire of the Harp\u201d, a book we have commissioned from Erard specialist Robert Adelson<\/a>. Professor of Music History and Organology at the Conservatoire de Nice, Robert is the author of the 2-volume History of the Erard Piano and Harp in Letters and Documents<\/a>, 1785\u20131959 and Erard: A Passion for the Piano<\/a>. He has also curated our historical harp collection<\/a>, and subsequently lectured on harp maker collecting habits<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"Alexander<\/a>At midday, still in the Camac showroom, Alexander Rider will present his \u201cFresque Marine\u201d programme, after Tournier\u2019s composition op.46 of the same name. Alex has also brought Fresque Marine out on disc, on Willowhayne Records<\/a>. In Paris, he will play an Erard from the Camac collection.<\/p>\n

In the evening, we will return to the Cit\u00e9 de la Musique for a concert by some of France\u2019s finest harpists: Delphine Benhamou, Agn\u00e8s B\u00e9rard, Sylvain Blassel<\/a>, Isabelle Moretti and Fran\u00e7ois Pernel<\/a>, joined by colleagues the Psophos string quartet, Mathilde Calderini (flute), Manuel Metzger (clarinet) and J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Billet (cello). They will present music commissioned by Jakez Fran\u00e7ois over the years. These works include Hersant\u2019s Chorale<\/em> for harp and cello, Houdy\u2019s De cordes et d\u2019archets<\/em>, and also a 50th anniversary special commission from Bruno Mantovani<\/a>: P\u00e9rip\u00e9ties et conclusion<\/em>. This will be premiered under the baton of the composer himself. If you are not yet familiar with Mantovani\u2019s work, he is the composer of the incredible concerto Danse libre<\/em> (2017), as well as Tocar<\/em> for solo harp, and the Quintet for Berthold Brecht<\/em> (both 2007). The Camac jazz club is also open on Saturday night, welcoming Colombian jazz legend Edmar Castaneda<\/a> on the special llanera<\/a> we designed to his vision, and his colleague Gr\u00e9goire Maret<\/a> on harmonica. It\u2019s not every day you can experience \u201charp vs. harp\u201d; Edmar and Gr\u00e9goire\u2019s blend of sound colours is unique and stunning to hear.<\/p>\n

Sunday, October 23rd, will be both a musical voyage and a return to our roots. \u015eirin Pancaro\u011flu will give a lecture-recital about Turkish harps and harp music. She will be followed by H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Breschand<\/a>, performing \u201cPandore\u201d: a journey into hitherto unimaged soundscapes. We are fortunate in being able to listen to H\u00e9l\u00e8ne\u2019s concerts frequently (and recorded one<\/a>, for Les Jeudis de la Harpe). We are always gripped, surprised, and moved.<\/p>\n

Finally, our festival will conclude with the homecoming: \u201cRetour aux sources\u201d with Nikolaz Cadoret<\/a>, master of the Breton Celtic harp.<\/p>\n
