Pour tout \u00e9tudiant en musique, mais surtout pour le harpiste en herbe, il est toujours judicieux de se pr\u00e9parer avec m\u00e9thode. La harpiste am\u00e9ricaine Laura Newell (1900-1981), qui jouait dans l’orchestre symphonique de la NBC sous la direction de Toscanini au si\u00e8cle dernier, s\u2019\u00e9chauffait toujours avec le fameux solo de Tzigane de Ravel, en disant \u00e0 ses \u00e9l\u00e8ves : \u00ab\u00a0On ne sait jamais o\u00f9 la foudre va frapper.\u00a0\u00bb<\/span><\/p>\n

Il est indiscutable qu\u2019une connaissance du r\u00e9pertoire de base est la meilleure des pr\u00e9parations \u00e0 la pratique orchestrale, quel que soit le contexte.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cependant, pour les harpistes dont la formation moderne n\u2019aborde g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement les traits d’orchestre qu\u2019en vue de pr\u00e9parer les auditions, cette connaissance peut parfois manquer d’une certaine profondeur. Il se peut, par exemple, que l’on ne tienne pas compte du fait qu\u2019une carri\u00e8re d\u00e9butera par des remplacements ou en ind\u00e9pendant. Et il est plus que probable que ces ces premiers pas seront effectu\u00e9s en tant que seconde harpe ; une comp\u00e9tence compl\u00e8tement diff\u00e9rente et (bien s\u00fbr), une partie compl\u00e8tement diff\u00e9rente.<\/span><\/p>\n

Je me souviens que mes professeurs successifs m\u2019avaient enseign\u00e9 la partie de premi\u00e8re harpe de la symphonie fantastique de Berlioz jusqu’\u00e0 ce que je puisse presque la jouer les yeux ferm\u00e9s. Bien s\u00fbr, lorsque l\u2019occasion tant attendue s\u2019est pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e pour jouer cette \u0153uvre avec un orchestre professionnel, c’\u00e9tait pour jouer… la partie de deuxi\u00e8me harpe ! La tentation de se pr\u00e9cipiter sur toutes les entr\u00e9es de la premi\u00e8re harpe \u00e9tait si fort que l’exp\u00e9rience ressemblait un peu \u00e0 essayer d\u2019\u00e9crire de la main gauche.<\/span><\/p>\n

C’est l’une des choses que nous aimons vraiment dans \u00ab\u00a0The Orchestral Harpist\u00a0\u00bb<\/i>, la derni\u00e8re publication de Sarah Bullen<\/a> (jusqu\u2019\u00e0 r\u00e9cemment harpiste de l’Orchestre symphonique de Chicago<\/a>). Elle y compile une liste de traits que l’on ne trouve g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement PAS dans les r\u00e9pertoires impos\u00e9s aux auditions, mais que l’on rencontrera forc\u00e9ment au cours d’une carri\u00e8re professionnelle, et dans la majorit\u00e9 des cas, elle inclut \u00e9galement la deuxi\u00e8me partie de harpe.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tous les extraits sont clairement pr\u00e9sent\u00e9s et parfaitement typographi\u00e9s, avec des doigt\u00e9s utiles et, bien s\u00fbr, quelques suggestions d\u2019adaptations tr\u00e8s pratiques. Tout cela est pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 de conseils utiles, recueillis au cours de plusieurs d\u00e9cennies dans l’orchestre. L\u2019auteur couvre tous les sujets, depuis l’accordage, le marquage et l\u2019arrangement des parties, jusqu’\u00e0 la fa\u00e7on de se comporter pour \u00eatre un bon coll\u00e8gue de harpe et comment g\u00e9rer les interactions avec les chefs d’orchestre qui, \u00e9tonnamment, ne vous font pas toujours des compliments…<\/span><\/p>\n
