  • Next Thursday’s online concert presents Parker Ramsay (USA), one of the most intriguing concert harpists of his generation. A former organ scholar of King’s College, Cambridge, Parker subsequently pursued historical keyboard studies at Oberlin Conservatory, and modern harp in Nancy Allen’s class at The Juilliard School. In 2020, the recording of his harp transcription of Bach’s Goldberg Variations was praised as “remarkably special” (Gramophone), “marked by keen musical intelligence” (The Wall Street Journal) and “a resounding success” (The Independent).

Parker significantly develops new harp repertoire. Projects include a residency at IRCAM in Paris throughout the 2022-3 season, with Latitude 49 to premiere a chamber concerto by Jared Miller, and commissions from Sarah Kirkland Snider, Matthew Ricketts, Alyssa Weinberg, Tom Morrison, Saad Haddad, Aida Shirazi and inti figgis-vizueta.

For our Jeudis de la Harpe, Parker presents nine movements from The Street, a new concert-length work for solo harp by Nico Muhly (Two Boys, Marnie), with texts by Alice Goodman (Nixon in China, Death of Klinghoffer). Parker premiered The Street in Cambridge UK on April 16, 2022, and the recording is also now out on King’s College Records. We are very proud that an Égérie harp was selected for both premier and recording.

Broadcasting from January 26, 19:30 CET @ CamacHarpsOfficial on YouTube. Goodman’s texts accompanying the movements are also available on our English-language programme.

  • Want to develop your jazz improvisation skills, and try playing with the band? Felice Pomeranz will show you how!

On Saturday, March 18 from 3 to 6 pm at Espace Camac, explore improvisation, and playing alongside Alexander Trampas (bass) and Julien Machet (drums).

Workshop open to all ages, all levels, or just as a spectator.

Felice POMERANZ has been teaching at Berklee College of Music since 2002, the year she initiated a harp class. She holds advanced degrees from the New England Conservatory in both classical and jazz harp, and is the first and only harpist to have received a master’s degree in jazz studies from the NEC.

In addition to her lecturing skills, Felice has performed at virtually every classical and jazz festival in the United States, Europe, Australia and the Caribbean. Her webshop includes a comprehensive catalog of transcriptions, classical and popular arrangements, her major recordings (Tomorrow’s Dream, Felicidade), as well as her instructional DVD Jazzy Beginnings and the CD/workbook Harp in the Band, Vol.1.

Felice is very active in the American Harp Society, serving as president of the board of directors, and is the head of Gilded Harps, an authoritative network of harp professionals, often initiating events throughout New England and beyond. With Kids for Camp, she provides a summer camp scholarship opportunity for young harpists.

  • We are delighted to be returning to Cracow for the 4th Cracow Harp Days, a festival weekend we have proudly sponsored since 2010. It all takes place thanks to the vision of Agnieszka Grela-Fedkowicz, harp professor at Cracow’s Szkoła Muzyczna I i II stopnia im. Bronisława Rutkowskiego, and since its beginnings has welcomed artists such as Anneleen Lenaerts, Isabelle Moretti, Rossitza Milevska, Tara Minton, Marta Power and Aistė Baliunytė, Florence Sitruk and Klara Wośkowiak. It is always a joyful meeting between international and Polish harpists, students and stars, and friends old and new; we also bring a harp exhibition and offer gratis regulations of Camac Harps throughout the weekend.

The 4th Cracow Harp Days will now take place between March 18-19, 2023, with guest artists François Pernel and Edmar Castaneda.

François Pernel is one of the most creative lever harpists we know: browse his YouTube channel to get a sense of his extraordinary range, and how he is developing new voices for the lever harp. Believing that interesting music belongs to every age and stage, François has also brought out several exquisitely-printed volumes of sheet music that will excite and move you from your very first harp notes. We are very proud to have developed our Excalibur instrument with him: large lever harp with an exceptionally powerful sound.

The exceptional Latin jazz virtuoso Edmar Castaneda has collaborated with Sting, Bela Fleck, John Scofield, Ricki Lee Jones, Hiromi, John Patitucci, Pedrito Martinez, Marcus Miller, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Ivan Lins, The Yellowjackets, and Paco De Lucia. The great Paquito D’Rivera has called him “an enormous talent…a musician who has taken his harp out of the shadow to become one of the most original musicians from the Big Apple.” Don’t miss his extraordinary blend of traditional Colombian music and jazz, on the harp we custom-built for him: the EC Llanera 35
