  • From baroque works to contemporary compositions, passing through American, African and Spanish origins, Mexican mestizo music is incredibly rich and multifacted. Discover its history and evolution at Camac Harps Paris!

Gerardo Tamez (direction, guitar, Baroque guitar and voice)
    Mercedes Gómez (harp and voice)
    Teodoro Gálvez (violin and voice)
Carlos García (voice, flute, jarana, percussion)

Gerado Tamez founded the Tierra Mestiza Ensemble in 2005, to present a repertoire nourished by the roots of Latin American folk music. Its character is clearly fusion, with elements from indigenous American, African and Spanish traditions. Its chronological scope is equally broad, ranging from Baroque works to more recent pieces composed or arranged by musicians such as Astor Piazzolla, Arturo Márquez and Gerardo Tamez himself.

The four members of the Tierra Mestiza Ensemble are distinguished by their deep knowledge of Latin American folk music and their solid academic training. Gerardo Tamez is a renowned composer and instrumentalist, while Mercedes Gómez needs no introduction to the harp community as a soloist, teacher, chamber musician, writer and participant in interdisciplinary activities. Carlos García is a jazz musician of great stylistic experience, and Teodoro Gálvez is a Mexican chamber musician, member of the OFUNAM orchestra.

The Tierra Mestiza Ensemble released its first CD, Ida y Vuelta, on Discos Pueblo in 2008. A second album followed on Fonarte Latino in 2012: Folia y Son, with new compositions by Carlos Garcia and Gerardo Tamez, colonial polyphonic music from Peru, and works by the 17th century Mexican poetess Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz.

The Tierra Mestiza Ensemble has performed in prestigious venues in Mexico City such as the Palace of Fine Arts, the Auditorium of the Mexican Radio Institute, the Botanical Gardens of the University of Mexico UNAM, the Teatro Reforma IMSS, the National Conservatory of Music and the National School of Music, as well as in many countries (USA, Brazil, Peru). In 2021, they created Pantéon de fiesta by Mercedes Gómez, a piece for puppets, actors and musicians with original music by Gerardo Tamez.

  • We are proud to support the fifth Wales International Harp Festival, which will take place in Caernarfon between April 5-11, 2023. It will be a busy week, full of superb concerts and an international competition. Isabelle Moretti, Deborah Henson-Conant, Edmar Castaneda, Catrin Finch and Festival Director Elinor Bennett are all on the programme. As for the competition, this runs in four categories: Junior, Youth, Chief Musician and world music.

The Camac team will be out in force along with our esteemed Welsh partners Telynau Vining, supplying harps for the competition and cheering everyone on!

The Festival is also going to be Elinor Bennett’s final one as Artistic Director, and we are looking forward to a joyful celebration of her incredible contribution to the harp world over the decades.

  • As well as being a unique performer, composer and recording artist, Marianne Gubri is the director of the International Harp Therapy Program in Italy and France. She regularly gives classes and lectures on improvisation, composition and therapeutic approaches.

On the 15 April at the Espace Camac, you will have the chance both to hear Gubri and to enrich your playing and improvising.

The day will begin with an Introduction to Harp Therapy; a chance for harpists (with at least one year’s experience) to discover a rich variety of improvisation patterns, play creatively and understand various concepts as applied in the fields of music and sound therapy.

This presentation will be followed by a performance of her beautiful Vita Nuova Programme, a concert that explores renewal and innovation, inspired by the poetic texts of Dante.

You are cordially invited to register online for this rare event.

  • Come and spend an afternoon revelling in an intimate sound world at the Harfengalerie Camac, Berlin.  Sophie Shen (currently the academist of the Von Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic) will give a magnificent programme of solos. Sophie’s current mentor and principal harpist of the Philharmonic, Marie-Pierre Langlamet, will be joined by Upama Muckenstern (flute, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester), in a classic instrumental combination that will be the perfect sound palette for a May afternoon.

There will be a rich variety of works ranging from the delicate classicism of Rameau and Dussek, to the beloved romanticism of Renié and Fauré, to more piquant sounds from the likes of Britten and Poulenc.

This promises to be a real treat and entry is free, but we strongly advise that you confirm your place by emailing [email protected]

  • As the spring reaches its height, we have great pleasure in presenting an Evening in Paris with harp ensembles from Israel, Taiwan and France.

Each of these groups brings its own unique identity and sensibility to a joyous evening of music.

Ensemble Yakinton, a group whose members come from all over Israel, will perform original pieces as well as traditional Israeli tunes, in an expression of the diverse ‘mosaic’ of Israeli culture.

Monamis  (featuring graduates of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris and the Taiwan Department of Music) a group whose name evokes friendship and unity, will enrich the programme with arrangements of classical and film music as well as traditional music.

Harpo-Mélusine is a flexible harp ensemble made up of 3 to 20 harpists of all ages and all levels. Aided by original musical choices from the worlds of pop, rock, world, Celtic and film music, the group aims to share the music of the harp with the widest possible audience.
